النخيل الملكي موطنه الأصلي فلوريدا، والمكسيك ومنطقة الكاريبي. ويزرع بوصفه شجرة زينة في أنحاء المناطق المدارية وشبه المدارية جميعها. واستخدم هذا النخيل العالي الجميل لتزيين الشوارع.
ينمو النخيل الملوكي حتى ارتفاع 20-30 متراً وانتشار 9 أمتار. وقطر الساق يصل إلى 50 سم وبه انتفاخات مميزة أسفل عمود التاج مباشرة. ومن هذه الانتفاخات تخرج الأوراق الريشية. والساق أقل انتفاخاً عند قاعدتها.
ولحاء الساق أملس رمادي فاتح اللون به حلقات تمثل مواضع الأوراق التي تساقطت. والأوراق مركبة مقوسة قاتمة الخضرة يصل طولها إلى 4 أمتار.
والأزهار بيضاء محمولة قي نورات عنقودية تظهر في الصيف. والثمار صغيرة شبيهة بثمرة العنبة (حسلية) لونها أسود أرجواني عندما تنضج.
- يناسب هذا النبات التربة العميقة الخصبة جيدة الصرف المتعادلة من ناحية درجة الحموضة.
- كما يلائمه ضوء الشمس الكامل.
- هذا النبات حساس للصقيع ويتحمل فترات قصيرة من البرودة وربما يموت إذا انخفضت درجة الحرارة عن 4- درجة مئوية.
- يتطلب الري المنتظم ولكنه لا يتحمل ركود الماء حوله.
- الإكثار يتم عن طريق البذور.
- نظراً لنموه السريع فيوصى بشدة باستخدامه في تزيين الطرق بمختلف أنواعها والمنتزهات.
- وهذا النبات لا يناسب الحدائق الصغيرة لكبر حجمه.
- حاجة هذا النبات إلى الصيانة كبيرة لأنه عرضة لكثير من الحشرات خصوصاً تلك التي تؤدي إلى تهيكل الأوراق، وسوسة النخيل مروحي الأوراق وبقة النخيل الملوكي. وقد يقود فطر الجانوديرما الأشجار إلى الموت السريع.

This plant is sensitive to frost, tolerates short periods of cold, and may die if the temperature drops below 4 ° C. It requires regular irrigation, but does not tolerate stagnant water around it. Propagation is by seed. Due to its rapid growth, it is highly recommended to use it in decorating roads of various kinds and parks. This plant is not suitable for small gardens due to its large size. And the need for this plant is great for maintenance because it is susceptible to many insects, especially those that lead to leaf formation, the palm weevil, leafworms and the royal palm bug. The ganoderma fungus may lead to rapid death in trees.
