الملوخية هي جنس من النباتات الزهرية تضم من 40 إلى 100 صنف، تتفاوت أطوال سيقانها وتزرع من أجل أوراقها التي تستخدم في عمل طبق الملوخية.

أزهارها صفراء صغيرة تنتج عددا من البذور، والملوخية من الأطباق التي تختص بها أكثر من بلد من بينها مصر والسودان وبلاد الشام وتونس والجزائر والمغرب، ولكن تعدّ أكلة الملوخية من الأكلات المصرية القديمة، وانتقلت إلى البلدان العربية تباعاً.

1. الملوخية من الخضروات التي تحتاج إلى طقس دافئ (25-30سْ).
2. لا تتحمل البرودة ولا تنبت بذورها عند درجات الحرارة المنخفضة.
3. تنجح زراعتها في جميع أنواع التربة، لكنها تجود في المتوسطة والثقيلة.
4. تزرع البذور في أحواض مكشوفة أو محمية، وهناك طريقة أخرى تتبع في البيوت المكيفة بزراعتها نثرا في مصاطب لريها بالتنقيط، وفي هذه الحالة يجب زيادة عدد أنابيب الري كي تقترب من بعضها. ويحتاج الدونم 2,5-3 كغ من البذور تقريبا.
5. الملوخية من النباتات المحبة للمياه، لذا يجب مراعاة عدم جفاف التربة بعد الزراعة حتى الإنبات ثم تروى حسب الطقس السائد ونوع التربة لانتظام نمو النباتات وجودة أوراقها.

Seeds are planted in open or protected basins, and there is another method that is followed in air-conditioned homes by planting them scattered on terraces for drip irrigation, and in this case the number of irrigation pipes must be increased to approach each other. A dunum needs approximately 2.5-3 kg of seeds, mallow is a water-loving plant, so it must be taken into account that the soil does not dry out after planting until germination and then irrigated according to the prevailing weather and the type of soil for the regular growth of plants and the quality of their leaves.
