نبات القطف شجيرة طويلة وكثيفة الأفرع، موطنها الأصلي المناطق الساحلية لحوض البحر الأبيض المتوسط حيث تتميز
باللون الأبيض الفضي لسيقانها وأوراقها ذات الشكل الدائري المستدير إلى متطاول القمة. بطيئة النمو في البيئات الفقرية
وعالية الحموضة والرملية المالحة، وهذا النبات يخلص التربة من الملوحة كما يقاوم الرياح، يتطلب أماكن مشمسة ويتحمل
الأجواء القاسية من الجفاف وقلة الأمطار لسنوات عديدة كما يتحمل الصقيع. يزرع نبات القطف لتغذية الماشية والإبل،
ويخرج الملح من خلال الشعيرات في الورقة، وله طعم الملح. يتكاثر بسهولة بالبذور ولكن إنبات البذور حساس جداً للملح،
وتعالج بغسل البذور لإزالة الأملاح من طبقتها الخارجية ثم تغسل بالماء. كما يتكاثر بالأفرع الحديثة النمو حيث تقطع ثم
تزرع له جذور طويلة، ولذلك النبات مناسب لتثبيت التربة ولحماية
المنحدرات من التآكل. كما أنه مناسب لإعطاء منظر مغاير في الألوان مع النباتات الأخرى. يمكن أن يستخدم النبات كسياجات
طويلة في المزارع أو حواجز قصيرة، كما أن النبات يحتاج إلى صيانة بسيطة، وهو ينمو بصورة جيدة عندما يعطي مساحة
كافية لينمو بصورة حرة، ولتحسين مظهر النبات تقلم البراعم الزهرية الجافة أو يقص النبات إلى قرب القاعدة حيث ينمو
بذور عشبة القيصوم برسعة.

to salt. It is treated by washing the seeds to remove the salts from their outer layer, then washing
with water. It also multiplies with newly grown branches, where it is cut and planted with long
roots, so the plant is suitable for stabilizing the soil and for protection
