الزعتر هو عشب من عائلة النعناع، وله أوراق صغيرة خضراء اللون، سيقانه خشبية رقيقة دائمة الخضرة، مُعمرة، ومن أكثر أنواعها شيوعًا هو الزعتر الشائع.

أزهاره وردية أو أرجوانية، بذوره صغيرة جدا، يتم استعماله في الطعام، كما يدخل في الطب أيضا، إذ يدخل في صناعة منظفات الفم.

1. يزرع الزعتر البري في بداية فصل الربيع إلى نهاية فصل الخريف، مع تجنب زراعته في أيام الصقيع.
2. يُزرع في الأماكن الحارة والمشمسة.
3. ينمو في التربة الخصبة جيدة التصريف.
4. حساس للصقيع.
5. يمكن استنباته عن طريق البذور أو تقسيم أجزاء الجذور للنبات.
6. ينتشر في دول الشرق الأوسط.
