السيسبان واحدة من الأشجار الأفريقية المفيدة، تنتشر بشكل طبيعي من السنغال إلى الصومال وجنوب أفريقيا، وهي شجرة سريعة النمو تزرع في جميع أنحاء أفريقيا الاستوائية وآسيا. الشجرة تنمو بجانب بحيرات المياه العذبة والبرك الموسمية، وبعض أنواعها تتسامح مع الأرض المالحة.
السيسبان لديها امكانات كبيرة في تحسين التربة في المزارع الصغيرة إلى جانب خصائصها في تثبيت النتروجين عبر أوراقها التي تتحلل في التربة.
زهور الشجرة تصلح للأكل وتستخدم في الأومليت. أوراقها تستخدم في صناعة الصابون. اللحاء والبذور يستخرج منها صمغ ذو نوعية جيدة يستخدم تجارياً.
تستخدم الجذور الطازجة والأوراق لعلاج لسع العقارب والدمامل والخراجات. الأوراق تستخدم لعلاج التهاب الحلق والسيلان والزهري، كما تستخدم لتحضير الشاي، وتعتبر من المضادات الحيوية، ولها مفعول طارد للديدان.

- تستخدم كمصدات للرمال، ويمكن زراعتها كاسوار صادة لزحف الرمال.
- في المكسيك تسحق حبوبها التي تشبه حبوب اللوبيا - او الدجر- وتعتبر من اهم الاطباق في عمل الكيك او تورته.
Sisban is one of the beneficial African trees, spreading naturally from Senegal to Somalia and South Africa, and is a fast-growing tree grown throughout tropical Africa and Asia. The tree grows alongside freshwater lakes and seasonal ponds, and some species are tolerant of salty ground.
Sisbanum has great potential for soil improvement in small farms besides its properties in fixing nitrogen through its leaves that decompose in the soil.
The flowers of the tree are edible and used in omelettes. Its leaves are used in soap making. The bark and seeds are extracted from a good quality gum that is used commercially.
Fresh roots and leaves are used to treat scorpion stings, boils, and abscesses. The leaves are used to treat sore throats, gonorrhea, and syphilis. They are also used to prepare tea. They are considered an antibiotic, and have an anthelmintic effect.

Used as sand repellents, and can be planted as sand repellent fences.
In Mexico, its beans are crushed, which are similar to cowpeas - or chicken - and are considered one of the most important dishes in making cake or tart.
