هذه الشجرة معروفة بالسرو الإيطالي وتوجد في معظم مناطق حوض البحر الأبيض المتوسط والشرق الأوسط، وهي أشجار مخروطية دائمة الخضرة يصل ارتفاعها من 20 – 30 مترا، وأشجار السرو المخروطي تنمو في التربة الحصوية والطينية قليلة الخصوبة على أن تكون جيدة التصريف. وهذه الأشجار مخروطية قائمة، ولها أوراق خضراء رمادية داكنة كثيفة صغيرة الحجم، والساق قائمة وأفرعها كثيفة قائمة. والقلف مخطط يتحول إلى اللون الرمادي عند نضج الشجرة، والمخاريط التكاثرية صغيرة والثمار مخروطية صغيرة. والتكاثر بالبذور والأفرع، وهذه الأشجار تتحمل الحرارة والجفاف، وتستجيب جيداً للري الصيفي كل شهر أوشهرين. وفي الماضي كانت هذه الأشجار ذات أهمية بالغة في حياة الناس، ونظراً لسيقانها المستقيمة فإنها تكون عينات جذابة في الحدائق الرسمية، كما تستخدم أسواراً عالية أو مصدات للرياح، كما تزرع على جوانب الشوارع والطرق السريعة. والري الزائد والأسمدة قد تتسبب في الإخلال بالشكل المخروطي المنسق. وينبغي اختيار الموقع المناسب لهذه الشجرة لأنها تنمو بشكل ضخم. فهي مناسبة في الأودية أو في الحدائق التي تحميها الأشجار الأخرى.

The appropriate site should be chosen for this tree as it grows massively. They are suitable in valleys or in gardens protected by other trees.
