الأليسيوم أو زهرة الملكة نبات معمر قصير العمر، موطنه حوض البحر المتوسط وجزر الكناري. ويشير المقطع الأول من اسم النبات (الجنس)إلىالشكل المفصص للثمار، في حسن أن المقطع الثاني يشير إلى ميل النبات للنمو طبيعياً في مناخ المناطق القريبة من البحار في محيط انتشاره. وينمو النبات حتى ارتفاع 15 سم. مشكلا فرشات شريطية يصل عرضها إلى 30 سم. والأوراق رمحية دائمة الخضرة تشكل خلفية لمجموعات من النورات الطرفية البارزة ذات اللون الأبيض. وللزهرة أربع بتلات، وهي الصفة المميزة للفصيلة الخردلية. وهناك أصناف من الأليسيوم تنتج أزهاراً زنبقية أو بنفسجية لفترة طويلة من الزمن. وللأزهار رائحة طيبة تجذب الحشرات. وبعد نهاية الإزهار، يجب قص النبات لإعادة الإزهار. ويعطي النبات تأثيراً جذاباً عند زراعته في أحواض من خلال تدليه على الحواف. ويمكن استخدام النبات للزراعة على نطاق واسع أو على الحواف أو تغطية الفراغات المكشوفة حين تتوفر إضاءة كافية. ويمكن للنبات النمو تحت أشعة الشمس المباشرة أو التظليل الجزئي، ويحتاج إلى تربة جيدة الصرف. وفيما عدا هذه المتطلبات، فليس لنبات الأليسيوم متطلبات خاصة. ويتحمل درجات الحرارة المرتفعة وكذلك المنخفضة، ويمكن ريه بمياه تحتوي على بعض الملوحة. ويمكن للنبات أن ينمو في الشقوق، ومع هذا يستمر في إنتاج الأزهار بغزارة. ويستجيب الأليسيوم للري المنتظم والتسميد بالأسمدة بطيئة التحلل. ويمكن الزراعة مباشرة في الموقع في فصل الخريف، ولكن الغالب نقل النباتات من المراكن إلى الحقل المستديم، مع مراعاة الحاجة إلى الرعاية حتى تتأسس النباتات. ويمكن للنبات أن يجدد نموه من البذور في المواقع الملائمة لنموه. وغالباً ما يمكن مشاهدة النبات في مدينة الرياض بوصفه جزءاً من الزراعات التجميلية في فصل الشتاء على حواف الطرقات.
