من جبال الأنديز الغربية، انتشر نبات ظلف الماعز، وهو ينمو الآن على الشواطئ والكثبان الرملية في المناطق الاستوائية وتحت الاستوائية. أصبح من نباتات التنسيق الرئيسية. ويغطي النبات التربة بشكل خفيف بواسطة ساقه الطويلة التي ترسل جذوراً إلى الأرض عند عقدها لتثبت نفسها في التربة وهذه الخاصية ذات أهمية بالغة في عملية وقف انجراف التربة. وقد يصل عمق الجذور إلى 3 أمتار. ويمكن لنبات واحد أن يغطي مساحة يصل قطرها إلى 30 مترا في حين أن ارتفاعه لا يتجاوز 10 سم.

النبات دائم الخضرة، وأوراقه خشنة، وشبه عصارية، وهي مفصصة كظلف الماشية، و الأزهار جذابة قمعية الشكل وتظهر في نهاية فصل الربيع وحتى فصل الخريف. وقطر الزهرة يصل إلى 5 سم وتتفتح في الصباح، ومن هنا جاء اسمه املحيل "بهاء الصباح"(باللغة اإلنجليزية). ومن أسمائه الأخرى "سكة الحديد" إشارة إلى نموه السريع الذي يحتاج معه أحياناً إلى التدخل للسيطرة عليه.

1. تتحمل النباتات بالغة النمو الظروف القاسية كالملوحة، والشمس الحارقة، وفترة الجفاف الطويلة.
2. يتسبب الصقيع في موت النبات وهو ما يحدث بقعاً جرداء في المواضع التي تأثرت بالصقيع.
3. رغم إمكانية إكثار النبات من البذور، إلا أنه عادة ما يتكاثر بوساطة العقل.
4. يعد نبات صباح الخير نباتاً مثالياً للتنسيق في الحدائق التي تتطلب قدراً محدوداً من الرعاية في الترب الفقيرة. ونظراً لأن النبات لا يغطي التربة بكثافة، فإن الحشائش تخترق المكان الذي يزرع فيه، ولهذا فمن الضروري تغطية التربة بقش النباتات في حالة الزراعة في تربة خصبة.

Frost causes the death of the plant, which results in barren spots in places that have been affected by frost. Although a plant can be propagated from seeds, it usually propagates by cuttings. The Good Morning plant is an ideal plant for landscaping in gardens that require limited care in poor soils. Since the plant does not cover the soil densely, the weeds penetrate the place where it is grown, and for this it is necessary to cover the soil with plant straw in the case of planting in fertile soil.
