نبات الاذريون موطنه الأصلي منطقة حوض البحر الأبيض المتوسط، وهونبات حولي سهل الزراعة حيث إن بذوره جاهزة للإنبات، وتنبت سنة بعد أخرى في المكان نفسه. وفي الرياض تعد نباتاً مشهوراً في الحدائق، وكذلك تزرع على جانبي الطرق لإكتسابها أزهاراً شتوية بألوانها الزاهية، وهي شجيرات لها أوراق خضراء فاتحة مستديرة القمة متشحمة بها شعيرات تنمو بطول بين 30-60 سم، ولها نورة مستديرة مهمة قطرها 7 سم وغالباً لونها صفراء أو برتقالية، وغالبا تتكاثر بالبذور، وتتحمل الترب الفقيرة على أن تكون التربة رطبة جيدة التصريف. وتزرع في المواقع المشمسة وتحتاج إلى ري منتظم حتى تثبت والأفضل أن تعطى القليل من الماء بعد ذلك في الصيف، تتأثر بالشمس وتتقزم فتحتاج إلى تجديد في الشتاء ولا تتحمل الصقيع وتهاجمها الحشرات. وتستخدم في تحسين المواقع بوصفها نباتات أحواض وفي الحدائق وكذلك أزهار شتوية في الأماكن العامة.
