القطن نبات معمر، يتحمل كل التربة الخصبة خاصة وجو صالح. وكل نوع من أنواع القطن يتطلب ظروفًا مثل الجو والتربة كثيرًا مالا تصلح للأنواع الأخرى. ويختلف وقت زراعة القطن باختلاف البلد. يزرع في غالب الأحيان من شهر فبراير الى مارس.
