وتسمى أيضاً نبات رجل الفيل، أو ذيل البوني، أو الأرجيلة، وكان يعرف سابقاً بنبات الزلوعة تنتمي إلى عائلة النوليناسيا، ويظن البعض أنها من فصيلة النخيل بناءً على مظهرها والحقيقة أنها من الفصيلة الزنبقية الليملية، تنمو في صحاري المكسيك وقواتيمالا. ويذكر ايضا أنها تنمو في مدغشقر. تتميز بتضخم أسفل الساق حيث يتم تخزين كميات من الماء تكفيها في فصول الجفاف، والنبات بطيء النمو، قد يصل ارتفاعه إلى أكثر من 4 أمتار، محبة للضوء الساطع المرشح، وتتحمل الحرارة إلا أنَّ تدني الحرارة يضر بها، لا تكثر الري حيث يكفيها أن تسقى كل عشرة أيام صيفاً وكل أسبوعين شتاءً، تتكاثر بالبذور او العقل.
