تعد أشجار البونسيانا من أكثر أشجار الزينة شعبية في شبه الجزيرة العربية . وأوراقها ريشية مركبة متساقطة. والبونسيانا إحدى النباتات المستوطنة في مدغشقر، وهي الآن تنتشر حول العالم لأزهارها الملونة الجذابة خلال أواخر فصل الربيع وأوائل الصيف.

ولم تكن زراعة البونسيانا في الرياض في أوائل الثمانينيات من القرن الميلادي الماضي ناجحة؛بسبب عدم قدرة الأشجار الصغيرة على تحمل الرياح الجافة الحارة.

لكن المناخ الصغير للبونسيانا يتحسن تدريجياً عند زراعتها في محيط أشجار أخرى تقوم بتهيئة الحماية لها. والأزهار تظهر في مجموعات كبيرة جميلةالشكل تبدو صغيرة مقارنة بأسديتها التي تفوقها طولا. وتظهر النورات ذات اللون القرمزي الفاتح ابتداء من عمر 10 سنوات و بعد التلقيح والإخصاب تتكون الثمار القرنية بلون بني غامق. واللحاء ناعم الملمس، رمادي أو بيج اللون.

وتاج الشجرة ذو الشكل الخيمي يتألف من غصينات هشة قابلة للكسر بفعل الرياح العاتية. ولما تتمتع به من أزهار جميلة، فإن هذه الشجرة تستحق الزراعة في الحدائق الكبيرة والمنتزهات بوصفها شجرة لافتة للأنظار.

2. تتحمل فترة طويلة من الجفاف كما تتحمل قدراً من الملوحة، لكن عوامل الإجهاد كهذه تقلل من عمره المتوقع.
3. تحتاج البونسيانا إلى الري المنتظم خلال موسم النمو، ومن الضروري تسميد أشجار البونسيانا، وبخاصة في الترب الفقيرة والقلوية.
4. تجود البونسيانا في الأراضي الخصبة جيدة التصريف التي لايعيقها

الأسفلت أو أرصفة الطرق أو المباني حيث إن جذورها السطحية تستطيع دفع ما فوقها إلى الأعلى.

The poinciana is one of the endemic plants in Madagascar, and it is now spread around the world for its attractive colorful flowers during late spring and early summer. The cultivation of poinsiana in Riyadh in the early 1980's was not successful. Due to the inability of young trees to withstand the hot dry winds. But the microclimate of poinciana gradually improves when planted in the vicinity of other trees that provide protection. The flowers appear in large, beautiful clusters that appear small compared to the stamens that are longer than they are. The inflorescences of light scarlet color appear from the age of 10 years, and after pollination and fertilization, the horned fruits are formed in a dark brown color. The bark is smooth to the touch, gray or beige in color. Poinciana trees are sensitive to frost, endure a long period of drought and tolerate a degree of salinity, but stress factors such as these reduce their life expectancy. Poinciana needs regular irrigation during the growing season, and fertilization of poinsiana trees is necessary, especially in poor, alkaline soils. Poinciana is found in fertile, well-drained land that is not obstructed by asphalt, pavements, or buildings, since its surface roots can push what is above it up. The tree's tent-shaped crown consists of brittle twigs that are susceptible to breakage in high winds. Because of its beautiful flowers, this tree deserves to be planted in large gardens and parks as an eye-catching tree.
