هو نبات عشبي معمر لا يعرف إلا منزرعاً، لذا لا يمكن الحديث عن توزيعه الجغرافي الطبيعي. وينمو هذا النوع من النعناع حتى ارتفاع 60 سم. والأوراق بيضاوية الشكل خضراء ناضرة، مجموعه الخضري متساقط عطري الرائحة. تظهر األزهار خالل الصيف في نورات سبحية وردية اللون. ويفضل النعناع النمو تحت أشعة الشمس المباشرة، مع توفر الري الجيد. ويمكن زراعة النبات في مجموعات أو بوصفه نبات تغطية على حواف البرك أو المستنقعات. ويمكن الحصول منه على أفضل كمية من الزيوت العطرية الطيارة عند الزراعة تحت أشعة الشمس المباشرة. وتستخدم أوراق النعناع في الدول العربية في إعداد الشاي طازجة وجافة لخواصها الملطفة لعملية الهضم ولطعمه المنعش. ويحتوي النبات على مضادات بكتيرية. كما أن لزيوته العطرية خواص طبية. ويتكاثر النبات بالمدادات والعقل التي تنتج الجذور بسهولة. وإذا كانت الظروف مواتية لنمو النبات فقد يصبح نباتاً غازياً لكن يسهل السيطرة عليه بتقليل كميات مياه الري. والتقليم من حين لآخر، وفي بداية كل موسم جديد؛ يزيد من كثافة النمو. ويعد النعناع في الرياض مرغوباً في الحدائق المنزلية بجوار البرك، لحصاده مباشرة لإعداد الشاي. كما يزرع في المزارع بوصفه أحد المحاصيل.
