شجرة الكوريزيا (مهرشة الفيل) أجمل أشجار المملكة النباتية، توجد عليها نتوءات خشبية حادة ومن هنا آتى الاسم الشائع “مهرشة الفيل” لأن الفيلة بعد الاستحمام تقوم بهرش جسمها فى الشجرة، شجرة زينة مدهشة ورائعة تعتبر من أجمل الأشجار في المملكة النباتية عموما، الشجرة ملفتة للنظر نظرا لأن الله حباها بشكل خاص يميزها عن أى شجرة أخرى لأن ساقها قائم خال من الفروع لونه أخضر.

1. يتم استعمالها كخزانات ماء في فترات الجفاف، تتحول مع نموها إلى شكل يشبه القارورة الزجاجية حيث يكبر من الأسفل ويصغر من الأعلى مشكلاً عنق زجاجة.
2. موطن هذه الشجرة في أمريكا الجنوبية والبرازيل والأرجنتين.
3. تعطى منظراً ملوناً بديعاً في موسم " التزهير" لأن زهرتها كبيرة الحجم لونها أحمر وردى إلى قرنفلى ومن الداخل تتمتع باللون الأبيض.
4. تظهر الشجرة في الفترة ما بين شهر أغسطس حتى شهر سبتمبر.
5. تتكاثر بواسطة البذور.
6. تتحمل الحرارة و الجفاف ولكنها لا تتحمل الصقيع.
7. تنمو في تربة طينية أو رملية أو قلوية.
8. تزرع كنماذج فردية فى المسطحات الخضراء لجمال أزهارها وطبيعة النمو وفى الحدائق العامة والميادين وعلى جوانب الطرق والشوارع الواسعة.
