نبات خبز النحل نبات حولى شتوى موطنه الأصلى جبال فارس, ومنها انتشر إلى مناطق كثيرة فى البلاد العربية, وأصبح يزرع فى مناطق تربية نحل العسل خصوصاً فى انجلترا وفرنسا، ويزرع حالياً فى مصر لفوائده الاقتصادية العالية حيث يستخدم كنبات طبي لعلاج العديد من الأمراض, كما يستخدم كمصدر من مصادر حبوب اللقاح الهامة لتقوية طوائف نحل العسل, وبالتالى زيادة إنتاج العسل فى خلايا النحل, خاصة وأن إنتاجه للأزهار يكون فى فترة حرجة بالنسبة للنحل وهى فترة الشتاء التى تقل وتندر فيها حبوب اللقاح والرحيق بالنسبة للنحل، النمو الخضرى للنبات غير محدود وتغطى أجزاء النبات بزغب أبيض كثيف يؤدى إلى إحداث التهابات فى الجلد عند الاحتكاك، الساق عصيرية قائمة مجوفة يتراوح طولها بين 0.8 – 1.00 متر ذات لون أخضر مصفر مغطاة بشعيرات كثيفة، الأوراق بسيطة متبادلة على الساق والورقة بيضاوية الشكل يتراوح طولها حوالى 11 سم وذات عنق قصير ولونها أخضر مغطاة بشعيرات كثيفة والأوراق الصغيرة لها رائحة الخيار، تتكون البراعم الزهرية ذات اللون البنفسجى على قمة الفروع ثم تتفتح الأزهار نجمية الشكل ذات بتلات زرقاء أو بنفسجية وتمكث فترة طويلة على البنات قبل أن تنضج وتكون البذور بداخل المبيض المكون من 3-4 حجرات والتى تشبه البندقة، والثمار المتكونة يكون لها لون أخضر فى البداية وعند جفافها تتحول إلى لون بنى داكن ذى غلاف خشن صلب.

With dense bristles and young leaves having the scent of cucumber, purple-colored flower buds form at the top of the branches, then the stellate-shaped flowers with blue or purple petals bloom and stay for a long time on banana. Before ripening, the seeds are inside the ovary consisting of 3-4 chambers, which resemble a nutshell, and the formed fruits have a green color at the beginning, and when they dry up, they turn into a dark brown color with a rough, hard coating.
